Sharp announced a new 5-inch smartphone, the Sharp AQUOS phone 206SH. While the 5-inch phone is getting more common in the market, Sharp tries to outstand with its 3,080 mAh battery which promises 2 days battery life.
The latest Sharp handset sports a 5-inch 1080p display, a 1.7GHz S4 Pro processor and 2GB RAM. It also features a 13.1 MP rear camera, 2.07MP front camera and 3,080 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.2, while wireless options include WiFi a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0 along with infrared. It’s also waterproof, and will be offered with a desktop dock for charging and entertainment use.
The device comes with the CG Silicon TFT LCD display which weighs in with some improvements of its own, using continuous grain silicon for the backplane rather than the amorphous silicon more traditionally found in LCD TFT panels. That, Sharp says, makes for a thinner and better-performing display, with higher quality graphics and reduced power consumption.
The phone might have two days battery life, but it requires you to turn on Sharp’s “Eco Tech” setting, which involves some level of processor throttling. Thus, there will be at least some sacrifice in performance to get the full two day’s life.
The Sharp AQUOS is exclusively arriving to Japanese carrier Softbank, and goes on sale in late June. However, there’s no word on international availability yet.
