Gionee has just showed off its new smartphone, known simply as the S Plus. Featuring a Super AMOLED 720p display, a USB Type-C port and “Immersive Touch,” this INR 16,999 (about RM1,114.679) smartphone has some rather interesting aspects about it.
Although it is hardly the most affordable Android smartphone on sale at the moment, the S Plus does have some rather respectable hardware given its price points. Powering the 5.5-inch device is a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor paired to 3GB of RAM. Inside you will find 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expand via the use of microSD cards of up to 64GB. In the photography department, the S Plus comes equipped with a 13-megapixel rear shooter working in tandem with a front-facing 5-megapixel self-taker. Keeping everything up and running is a 3,150mAh battery with support for fast charging.
The thing that caught our eye most about the S Plus is none other than its Immersive Touch feature, although Gionee has yet to actually specify what it does. While one would expect it to be Gionee’s take on the pressure-sensitive display, it is rather unlikely, given the price point. In any case, there is no real indication that Gionee will be bringing in the S Plus to our shores anytime soon, although the Chinese smartphone maker did mention that they were rather keen on entering the Malaysian market, so there is still a chance.
