Facebook has announced a new apps named Home that replaces your standard Android’s homescreen with an immersive Facebook experience featuring full-screen photos, status updates, and notifications. The social giant has also announced the Facebook Home Program for phone manufacturers. HTC, Samsung, Sony, and others have all signed up for the program, which will help bring Facebook’s new suite of apps to consumers.
Facebook Home will be launched on April 12th in US while international launch will be rolled out later. The apps will be available to users of Android Jelly Bean and Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Facebook will also try to make Home available on tablets within a few months. A Home update will be released by Facebook monthly to add new features and make it accessible to new devices.
For Android user who are using the most recent Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps, you will be able to see a banner alert to download Home from the Google Play store. During the first launch, users may decide whether to swap in Home for your home screen.
HTC First
HTC and AT&T, America’s second-largest carrier will release one of the first phones with Facebook Home pre-installed. The device’s operating system will be “optimized” to give users unique experiences like notifications for email and calendars on Facebook Home. The HTC First will be available on April 12th for $99.99.
