Xiaomi also unveiled MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The updated MIUI comes with new design and several new features. Xiaomi MIUI 8 still offers interactive animations and several themes as its USP.
Here is a look at top new features you should care about:
Dual apps: With MIUI 8, Xiaomi smartphone users can have two instances of any app on their phone that correspond to different accounts. For example, users can now have two WhatsApp accounts or two Facebook accounts on the same device.
Second space: Xiaomi calls it the next level of “Dual apps” technology. With second space, users can enable two smartphone instances on the same device. Using a different lockscreen password or fingerprint, users can set up two entirely different home screens, with different apps, separate user data and independent photo storage. Coolpad Max has a similar feature.
Scrolling screenshots: Xiaomi has taken a page out of Vivo’s FonTouch OS with this feature. MIUI 8 introduces an ability to take multi-screen scrolling screenshots and editing them further, which is very useful for sharing long articles in just one image.
Quick ball: Xiaomi wants to make one-handed operation a breeze with quick ball feature. The new feature makes accessing commonly used actions like going back, returning to the home page, and turning off the screen much more convenient by allowing users to keep their grip and not have to move their thumb around too much. These actions can be customised to the user’s liking and are available from the lockscreen.
Photo gallery: Xiaomi MIUI 8 comes with several optimisations such as quick share controls where users can swipe up to share and change filters with a tap. MIUI 8 users can also doodle on photos and make use of a native video editor with various effects and music.
New Color Scheme
One of the biggest improvements to MIUI 8 is a new color scheme. The color scheme uses a wider, brighter palette, and these colors will be used in ways to convey information.
For example, the calendar and weather will change colors according to the season and weather at the time. In the screen shot below, you can see that its warm orange in July when its summer. The calendar will turn to a frosty blue during winter.
Colors aside, MIUI 8 will also feature more animations to create a more lively and vibrant feel.
