Asus introduced yet another PadFone, not long after unveiling the PadFone Mini and PadFone E. The new model is called PadFone Infinity Lite, and it’s hardly different from the PadFone Infinity 2 that was announced in the second half of last year. The main difference between the PadFone Infinity Lite and PadFone Infinity 2 is that the former comes with a quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor instead of the more capable 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 (also quad-core) that’s powering the latter.
The Infinity Lite seems to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but it will probably be updated to 4.4 KitKat at some point. Like all the other PadFone models, the Infinity Lite consists of a smartphone and a tablet dock. The smartphone is a 5-inch (1080 x 1920 pixels) one with a 13MP rear camera, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and a 2,400 mAh battery. The tablet dock sports a 10.1 inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels, and includes an extra 5,000 mAh battery.
Asus announced the PadFone Infinity Lite in Taiwan, where the device will be released in March for as low as $463 (13,990 TWD). It looks like customers will have to pay an extra $230 (7,000 TWD) if they also want to get the tablet dock. Asus didn’t say when (or if) the Infinity Lite would be available internationally. In Malaysia however, Asus will be selling PadFone Mini which is a 7 inch phablet.
